Limit your request to one phrase per thread.

SUBJECT BOX
Put the first line of what you want translated.
Put nothing else.

BODY
1. Clearly state the entirety of what you want translated. Quotation marks are helpful here.
2. State what you intend to use the translation for.
3. Elaborate on what it means to you. Many words can be interpreted in several ways. We need some context to make sure you get the correct translation.
4. Latin is gender specific. Please state if your phrase refers to a man or a woman.

Existing translations
1) If you have a translation already, please indicate the source you are using.
2) If you have not learned Latin, do not string together words from the dictionary and ask what it means. It will be wrong.
3) No matter how tempted you may be, DO NOT under ANY circumstances post the refuse from an machine translator. This does mean YOU.
4) We will make an exception to rule 3 if you have already tattooed yourself with one of these translations. In this case, please post a picture here, to serve as a horrible warning.

Length
If you wish more than 100 words of the source language translated, you should ask for a paid translation. This is cumulative over successive requests.

Tips
1. Be polite. If you type nothing other than the phrase to be translated, you may be ignored. If you are rude and insulting, you will be banned.
2. Write in proper English, not text speak.
3. Feel free to write your quote in its original language as well as English. Most of our members are multilingual.
4. After you’ve posted your request, sit back and allow the members to discuss the question for a few days and provide multiple versions of the translation.
5. DO NOT check the translations offered against a machine translation. It is rude and extremely insulting.

Cinefactus dixit:
e) No matter how tempted you may be, do not under any circumstances post the refuse from an online translator.
As a follow-up to this. If you use an online translator to check a translation given to you by one of our members, you can expect to be flamed. It is quite insulting, as they are invariably wrong.

If you violate this rule, your thread may be locked or deleted.

Urgent

There have been no native Latin speakers for over 1200 years. If you mean you have a tattoo appointment tomorrow and you have only just bothered to check your phrase, it is not urgent, it is late. If you are happy to tattoo gibberish, go right ahead. If you want us to check it, you will have to wait.

Research

If you mean that you spent months systematically reading through piles of old manuscripts to come to your conclusions, use research. If you mean that you spent five minutes on Google, write google. If you mean, someone on another forum gave it to you, say so.

Writing style to avoid
Do not write in text speak or chat shorthand.
This is a forum of linguists. If you can't be bothered to type proper English, why should we be bothered to answer your question? You may also get an incorrect translation if someone misinterprets your abbreviations.

Words and Phrases to avoid

There is no need to remind us not to use a machine translator. It is insulting to suggest we would do so.
